Biography
Karen Skyers is a Partner at Heiress Law, an estate planning firm dedicated to helping individuals and families build legacies that reflect their values and protect their loved ones. Originally from the Bronx, New York, Karen brings over 13 years of diverse legal and policy experience to her practice, offering personalized and bilingual estate planning services to clients from all walks of life.
Karen is also an Adjunct Professor at Florida A&M University College of Law, where she teaches Florida Wills, Trusts, and Estates. Her professional journey includes roles in public defense, lobbying, and government affairs. She served as Director of State Government Affairs for Charter Communications (Spectrum) in Florida and as Director of Diversity & Inclusion for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Earlier in her career, Karen taught Spanish at the University of Detroit Mercy.
Her commitment to public service is rooted in her early experience as a Legislative Aide to Former Florida Senate Democratic Leader Arthenia Joyner, where she helped craft impactful legislation and navigate the complexities of state policymaking. She also served as a public defender in Hillsborough County, advocating for clients within the criminal justice system.
Karen holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Political Science from the University of Detroit Mercy and earned her Juris Doctor from Florida A&M University College of Law. With a passion for empowering clients and a deep understanding of the legal and cultural nuances that shape estate planning, Karen ensures that each client receives thoughtful, strategic guidance tailored to their goals.
